From Red Coats to Khaki - an Uckfield family in the wars

The Ledward family have been living in Uckfield for well over two hundred years and starting from inherited medals, I have been exploring my family history, particularly the military stories. We have been a very ordinary family with no great wealth or position. But over that time, from the threat of Napoleon to World War 2 and beyond, our story follows how, for Britain, wars changed from involving a few people in far away places to impacting on everyone much closer to home.
